Namtha Valley Route by Bicycle or Motorbike

Description: The Luang Namtha Valley and Muang Sing Valley are great for cycling as they are relatively flat and have many sites and villages close to fill a half day or full day on a bike. You can also take one of the many guided cycling tours, or combination cycling, trekking, kayaking tours.

Description: The Luang Namtha Market has many local foods unique to the province and Laos that you can check out and purchase for a picnic lunch. See the location on the town map.
Luang Namtha Night Market
District: Namtha
Time: 30 mins – 1 hour
Description: The Luang Namtha Night Market is a great place to taste some local foods at a reasonable price There are barbecued meats, papaya salad, sticky rice and more. The atmosphere is alive and is a must do even if you’re in town for a night. Starts at sunset and you can’t miss it located next to the BCEL bank in the heart of town on the main street.
Luang Namtha Museum

Description: The Luang Namtha Museum is a great place to start your trip. Artefacts from the many ethnic groups in the province are on display, along with historical items and explanations.
That Poum Pouk Stupa
District: Namtha
Time: 1-2 hours
Description: The stupa is located at Nam Ngaen village on a hill in the northeast part of the Namtha Valley on the Valley Route. The original stupa was constructed in 1628 to demarcate neutral territory between the Kingdoms of Lane Xang in Luang Prabang and Lan Na in Chiang Mai.

Description: Luang Namtha Stupa is perched on the mountain overlooking Luang Namtha Town, just a short walk from the main street. Sunset and sunrise is a good time to visit. See map for directions.

Luang Namtha Province Loop by Motorcycle or Bicycle

Description: Rent a motorbike in Luang Namtha Town, bike the loop around the province on paved and dirt roads, through the Nam Ha NBCA, historical Muang Sing, the Mekong River at Xieng Kok in Muang Long, Kao Rao Cave in Vieng Phoukha, and back along the Namtha River at Nalae. Read More
Namtha River Trip

Description: A boat can be hired from Luang Namtha to Nalae and finally down to Pak Beng, where you can go on to Luang Prabang or Houay Xai. The distance from Luang Namtha to Nalae is 325 km with the river gently meandering through the Namtha valley, broken further south by rapids as it flows through mountainous terrain towards the Mekong. Muang Sing Museum

Description: The Muang Sing Museum was originally the house of a local prince and now houses implements and artefacts of ethnic people of the district, including Akha, Tai Lue and Tai Neua people.
Xieng Teung Stupa
District: Muang Sing
Time: 30 mins. – 1 hour
Description: That Xieng Teung (Xieng Teung Stupa) is the most important stupa in Muang Sing. It is said to contain the adam’s apple of Buddha. To the left of the stupa are some stairs that lead to a sacred fountain and a sacred stone.
Kao Rao Cave
Districts: Vieng Phoukha
Time: 30 mins. – 2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Description: Vieng Phoukha town is surrounded by limestone karsts formations that have many interesting and beautiful caves. Kao Rao Cave is located close to the main road right outside of Vieng Phoukha Town. Read More
