Calling All Freelance Backpackers for Caravan Trek 2 Days Trip 1 Night in the Nam Ha National Protected Area, Luang Namtha Province, Lao PDR. Date of Trip: 2-3 October 2025

This program was sponsored by the local government in Luang Namtha Province, the perspective is to promote ecotourism and unique culture of local people in the Nam Ha National Protected Area. This project requires 50 participants to join our program, this program will provide you the cheapest price of USD 20/person with full fun, exploring unique culture, and touching the real nature in the Nam Ha National Park, which is one of the best destinations for ecotourism in the Southeast Asia region.

Luang Namtha located in northwest Laos just 4 hours from the Thai border. Visitors can access by plane, train, and bus. The province is a wondrous combination of nature and ethnic diversity. The Nam Ha National Protected Area is filled with opportunities for trekking, kayaking and rafting.

Do you love nature and outdoor adventure? Are you interested in learning about Laos and its rich ethnic diversity? Are you passionate writing about food, culture and local travel? Then Luang Namtha wants you.

We’re inviting media (freelance writers, bloggers, photographer and videographers) to join our trip. Therefore, we’re looking for travel writers to publish a story in a traditional outlet or for bloggers/influencers who will promote Luang Namtha through social media, blog posts and/or video blogs.

Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Trekking

The group will trek through the Nam Ha NPA (1 Night homestay in a Khmu Ethnic Village); for this section, your tour guide will explain to you how the program is, particularly adventuring to hike on steep mountains, exploring nature, having a traditional picnic in the jungle, discovering biodiversity, and learning about herbal plants.

  • Night Time: Cultural Activities

After enjoying a traditional dinner with the Khmu villagers (during which you can join the local chef in preparing the cuisine). Then, we will take the group to a local stage where performers will showcase traditional Khmu dances—and invite you to join them. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to taste Khmu whisky, commonly known as “Jar Whisky.”

  • Day 2: Kayaking

After breakfast, each team will participate in traditional activities included in the program, such as the crossbow game, rice pounding, rattan ball playing, and bamboo dancing. Afterwards, the tour guide will take you kayaking on the Nam Ha River, where you’ll experience the refreshing water, rapids, and fresh air as you paddle through lush forest in the heart of the jungle, exploring remote villages along the riverbanks.

What we provide:

  • The cheapest price for a combo program trek + kayak, $20/each (Normal price is $55-60).
  • Two nights of accommodation at a 40% discount off the regular price. There are 15 quality hotels in town, which will be booked by the Luang Namtha Tourism Office for October 1st and 3rd. You will pay 60% of the regular rate when arrive. Further details will be provided upon your selection for the project.
  • All transportation, English tour guides, homestay & meals during the trip in the National Park.
  • There will also be security personnel and nurses available to take care of you throughout your trip.

Not covered:

  • Visa (price based on nationality).
  • Transportation to Luang Namtha province, either Vientiane or Luang Prabang.
  • Over stay in accommodation where you stay during the program.
  • Travel insurance and your private expense.

Eligibility:

  • Be a freelance backpacker who is ideally active for at least 2 years with at least 5,000 followers on one of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Twitter.
  • Have experience in trekking and maintain good health.
  • Love exploring nature and culture in Laos.

Your Mission:

  • Post your stories by adding photo or video in any online media that you have and provide the link of your posts to the coordinator.
  • For your stories, please highlight the activities you have participated which will attract others to know more about Luang Namtha province.
  • For your hotel, please share your experience on social media by showcasing the name of the accommodation, the quality of the service, and your overall impressions. Additionally, consider leaving a review on Google Maps/booking.com/TripAdvisor.

After deadline, the official committees will screen your application, and then we will notify the shortlists directly to the person who is selected for the program.
