Cultural Mountain Climbing

Gain a deeper insight to the culture and everyday life of Hmong, Lahu, and Akha people on a two-day trek that spends the night in a village lodge, and heads to a waterfall and buffalo farm, with lunch on the trail. This tour, overseen by the provincial Eco-guide Unit, starts with a short drive northwest of Vieng Phoukha Town to Ban Nam Kap Nuea for a Lahu village visit and Ban Tha Luang to meet your local Hmong guide and begin a six-hour trek. The going gets tougher as you climb a mountain through thick jungle. The guide will teach you about forest products such as herbs for traditional remedies. After a lunch of “forest food”, you’ll continue to incredible mountaintop views of the Nam Ha NPA, before arriving at the Akha village of Ban Tah Soom. While your hosts prepare dinner, you are free to roam around the village, meet the locals, and watch them go about their daily lives. During dinner, you’ll learn more about the Akha’s unique culture, and receive a traditional welcome massage before an overnight stay in the village lodge. After an Akha breakfast, embark on a 30-minute climb to Waterfall and a natural pool where you can bathe. The march continues to a Lahu buffalo farm, and then cuts through their upland agriculture field. After a Lahu lunch on the trail, it’s just a 90-minute walk back to Ban Nam Kap Nuea, and a vehicle to take you back to town.
